About Wine Circle Blog
This blog is my way of bringing you closer to the world of wine and food. Not just in terms of what wines I am drinking and which wine and food pairings are (or are not) exciting me but also to share thoughts with you on how wine and food have become an integral part of my life.
My roots in wine and food have been shaped by my early adulthood working in the kitchens of the Restaurant Le Saintongeais and the Hotel Lancaster in Paris, Auberge du Soleil in Napa Valley, and Chez Panisse Cafe in Berkeley, California. In 1984 I joined my mother, Chef and Author Joyce Goldstein in opening the celebrated San Francisco restaurant Square One where as my wine career began to flourish as the restaurant’s wine guy.
In 1987 I took and subsequently passed the prestigious Master Sommelier examination and became the eighth American and youngest ever at the time to do so. Since then, I have been blessed by a wonderful career of teaching, writing and talking about wine as an educator and author for over 20 years. In 2006, my book, Perfect Pairings: A Master Sommelier’s Practical Advice for Partnering Wine with Food (University of California Press), was published. Despite how much work the first book was and being a glutton for punishment, I am working on a sequel, working titled Daring Pairings, planned for release in Spring 2010.
I envision this blog as a forum to share my thoughts about wine and food as well as my observations about both the wine and restaurant service industries. As I have grown up in both worlds, I have had the fortune of meeting some wonderful wine and restaurant professionals and will use this blog as a way to introduce you to my circle of friends as well. As you read my blog, I would love for you to join in the conversation and connect with us.
Welcome to the circle!
Evan Goldstein
